Developer

Stefan Masztalerz is a trained IT specialist for application development and has been working for AOE since 2011. He has broad-based knowledge in many different areas of development and has been responsible for many years for a large number of projects in the TYPO3 environment. In addition, he has a passion for agile work processes and an interest in a wide variety of Open Source projects.

Publishing Open Source extensions with minimal effort in 4 steps

To meet their special demands we regularly develop high-quality, customized extensions for our customers and, in close cooperation with them, often make these extensions available to the Open Source community. In our last blog post we described, why we make AOE extensions available to the Open Source community and which benefits this provides for the customers, the community, but us at AOE, as well. However, published extensions need dedicated maintenance and create a number of challenges for us and our customers. How can newly developed extensions best be published? Without publication requiring too much time and maintenance? And without the focus of the actual development process suffering?

Why AOE publishes Open Source extensions – and benefits for our customers

Open Source depends on the community. The larger and more competent a community (which voluntarily solves problems), the better the Open Source software. The idea behind Open Source, making one’s own developments freely available to the community, sounds somewhat strange for many at first. Why should one make valuable work available free-of-charge for someone else? And Open Source, at that, where others can change your code! And why should customers, who pay good money for development, allow this to happen and consider it money well spent? We will show how we combine our Open Source culture with the interests of our customers – to the benefit of all!
