Overview of the teams at Thomas Cook.
Within just four months, AOE developed a new intranet portal for one of the world´s leading tour operators, Thomas Cook. The client wanted to provide employees with a central point of contact for relevant company news, internal memos and current statistics, as well as frequently used forms, employee offers and much more. Thomas Cook already had an intranet, based on Lotus Notes, but the solution no longer met the company’s requirements.
AOE was contracted to implement an intranet for Thomas Cook and its subsidiary Condor, both based on identical technology. The tour operator has a complex organizational structure, with staff departments, operative and strategic divisions, as well as other subsidiaries. The objective was to portray the specific divisions and present the teams individually. To accomplish this, more than 50 editors continuously update the various webpages.
After detailed strategic and conceptual discussions with the client, AOE implemented the intranet with TYPO3, the Open Source Content Management System (CMS) that was also used for Condor. AOE developed a customized internal marketplace specifically for the intranet; employees can post, administer and read classified ads.
- Web CMS: User-friendly content management for the intranet, based on the Open Source CMS TYPO3
- Portal functionality: Centralized management, easy maintenance and efficient access to internal information and third-party platforms
- Online marketplace: The customized solution enables employees to post and manage online ads
AOE succeeded in creating a visually appealing intranet that meets the client’s needs for technical sophistication as well as ease of use.
