Quadrant: Efficient CMS portal with finder feature

Improved Bottom Line

Combining four separate portals and dozens of microsites into one frontend decreased costs significantly.

Better Admin

Cross-page synchronization and workspace frontend preview help employees to maintain the portal and create content more easily.

Increased Customer Satisfaction

Users can search for industry solutions and products more efficiently with the finder feature.

Quadrant is a leading manufacturer of thermoplastic materials for a number of industries, including automotive, food and renewable energies. As a global player, Quadrant needs a web platform that integrates all business units under one roof and can be easily maintained by authorized staff worldwide. The challenge was to integrate all markets into one web portal and make the relevant content available to the target audiences with just a few clicks – a task for the leading Enterprise Content Management System (CMS) TYPO3. Of particular significance for the platform is the product- and industry solution finder AOE implemented for Quadrant. The result is an online toolbox, designed for users to quickly and easily find their desired plastic solution.

The primary target was not only to implement a CMS for a unified global frontend, but to completely redesign the entire global web footprint. In addition, the portal structure was to be simplified.

To meet Quadrant’s requirements, AOE implemented a completely new website while also redesigning parts of the company’s global corporate identity; in the process, all business units and editorial groups were unified onto one platform.

With the solution finder mentioned above, users are now able to find the desired product or solution with only two clicks from the homepage.

Further technical highlights of the project:

  • Workspace frontend preview: For Quadrant, AOE developed a dedicated workspace preview feature. The workflow for corrections, approval and publication is now available directly in the frontend with automated notifications – thus, backend login and -training for editors or authorized staff are no longer necessary
  • Localization with Geo IP concept: For Quadrant, AOE used a combination of the single- and the multi-tree concepts for backend localization: the side trees of the business units have language and regional settings across the entire tree. The resulting cross-page synchronization significantly reduces the workload for Quadrant. The system automatically localizes the user with his location and language settings with the help of a sequential query of the IP-address and browser settings
  • Quick-contact flag: A context-sensitive contact feature offers a quick contact for the user, matching market, language, industry, region and product

By bundling its competencies – combining concept, design and development – AOE was able to offer Quadrant one unified package. The Open Source principle of TYPO3 – no licensing fees – played a significant role in project implementation.
